CORTINA D'AMPEZZOCertainly one of the the most elegant and sophisticated resorts in Italy and one of the best in Europe, Cortina represents the major attraction for italian and foreign skiers. It is patronized by members of the top Italian Society . Situated at 1224 meters above sea level in the very heart of the Ampezzo Valley surrounded by some of the most beutiful Dolomites, the townhosts every year many Winter Sports Championships. It offers 160 kms of ski-runs of variousdifficulty grades plus 74 Kms of cross-country ski runs. Apart from the very elegant boutiques, one can find a very well supplied Department Store withgood quality goods of all types at very approacheable price, plus shops, bars, restaurants, nightclubs etc, Cortina offers also a lot of activities for the non skiers or for after ski. The closest gateway is Venice situated at approx 200 Kms . According to the conditions of the road the transfer will take approx 3 hrs. MADONNA DI CAMPIGLIOAltitude 1600 meters. Situated at 12 km from Pinzolo, this is a much bigger town and more sophisticated. Madonna often hosts important World Winter Sports Competitions. 30 ski-lifts with 90 kms of pistes connected with the other 60 of Folgarida, Marilleva and Pinzolo. The town has a natural skating ring , indoor pools, slalom stadium, tennis courts. SELVA DI VAL GARDENACertainly one of the most beautiful Valleys in the Dolomites, the Val Gardena offers a large variety of landscapes aspects at various altitudes starting from a minimum of 470 to a maximum of 3.181 meters above sea level. It vegetation, climate, culture and traditions have made of this Valley one of the most popular mountain resorts in Italy both for summer and winter holidays. Selva is one of the main towns in the Valley at an altitude of 1.563 meters above sea level. The resort offers some of the best slopes in the Dolomites but at the same time plenty of alternative activitis for the non-skiers: Walking, Horse-riding, Swimming, Skating etc Lots of handicrafts shops , bars and good restaraunts offer a wide selection of after-ski entertainment. LIVIGNOThis is a very lively alpine resort situated in the spacious valley of the Spol River.Amidst modern Hotels and comfortable Residences are beautiful characteristic wooden homes built in wide rows dating back to the 15th and 16th Centuries. Excellently equipped long ski runs are available in the Vetta Blesaccia-Lac Salin and Monte Sponda areas. Slalom and Giant Slalom Competitions are held in Livigno every year on off-trail runs through the woods. Also available in Livigno are cross-Country trails with extremely varied circuits, plus alpine ski runs. In late Spring one can ski on the Diavolezza and Bernina Glaciers. Livigno is situated at 150 miles from Milan Malpensa and 25 miles from the famous St Moritz which can be reached by the Bernina and Forcola Passes. The town has a very colourful pedestrian island with lots of good shopping. Being at the border with Switzerland , Livigno is considered a duty free area and therefore most items are tax free. |
